To Whom it May Concern,
I have requested a hearing before congress through both my representative and my Senator. I plan to present this petition (see below). I am asking for people to sign the petition. I understand that e-mail signatures are not acceptable, so I have obtained a Post office box for the petitions. If you wish to sign this simple petition please copy and paste the text below into a document then print, sign, and mail it to Congressional Petition C/O SSleeper at P.O. Box 1619 , Jonesboro, GA 30237-1619. I promise will not be discouraged, It is not such an overwhelming thing if broken down into steps. The petition is step one, getting a hearing is step two. I am working on both simultaneously. I do need your help and would greatly appreciate your signature, the more the better the chances of effecting change.
The petition calls for the resignation of named members from their current duties in Congress, a 10% pay cut for government and congressional members, the cutting of operational costs (no more percs such as private planes etc), and an immediate across the board 20% budget reduction.
I will keep everyone informed through my blog as things progress. I am researching examples to present at the hearing as evidence to demonstrate the outrageousness of thier behaviors and justify our demands. Suggestions are welcome.
U.S. House of Representatives October 14, 2008
Washington D.C 20515
To All Representatives:
Our petition is simple. We don’t care who did what to initiate the economic catastrophe right now. It is the increasing budget, the trillion dollar deficit, cost of operations and the 700 Billion US dollars for a bail out that was forced upon us because you failed to do your job. You have failed because you have been too caught up in your ideologies and in the fight to get the upper hand. No giveaways are going to fix this.
As congressional leaders you must set an example, You will be doing more than making a tough choice, you will be taking a 10% pay cut as will all employees of the US government, you will be cutting operational expenses by 30%, and you will also begin cutting the budget by as much as 20% before the end of this year. Barney Frank- 4th MA, Maxine Waters - 35th CA, and Gregory W. Meeks- 6th NY must resign from the Financial Services Committee or from congress. They are too involved in the sub prime, housing program legislation and linked to many questionable acts to be allowed to continue. This has to be done. Otherwise how can the citizens of the United States be confident in any investigation or fact finding hearing if they are involved. Please note this list of names is not exclusive, others involved should resign on their own. Nancy Pelosi - 8th CA is also to resign as Speaker of the House, if not congress, as she has failed to not only control the behavior of the members but contributed to the problems that beset this congress.
The free ride is over for all of us. The 110th congress has failed in its duty to the US citizen and will have to accept the burden of all the wrongdoing and excessive spending. The work of the next congress (111th) will be devoting its time to fixing the mess and passing legislation that limits bills up for consideration in the senate and house to specific/related issues. The operating budget will be further curtailed, cutting all items that do not contribute to the basic operation of the congress and government. The budget will have to be greatly reduced in order to pay off the debt, this means no new items until the deficit is paid off and every program of every department will be purged of any and all unnecessary costs. Any program that has a poor return should be cut. Decentralize the departments, much of the current work could be better managed by the states, especially for the smaller programs. There is no need of a huge Government in Washington D.C. and if a State wants help with something they can discuss it with their residents.
We do not need to remind you that confidence in you as a governing body is at its lowest point since our ancestors started this little experiment in government. You have a lot to make up for and reform.
The cuts in salary and operational expenses are to begin immediately and you will begin the process of reducing the federal budget. An initial target of 20% on across the board is not unreasonable nor unachievable and ultimately neither is a drastic reduction in the size of the federal government.
